Abstract

The phases AIB(2), AlB12 and TiB2 were studied in Al-rich AI-B and Al-Ti-Balloys produced by several different sample fabrication methods. The samples were examined using light optical microscopy (LOM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopic analysis (EDS) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The results indicate that only a Limited solubility of Al in TiB2 and Ti in AlB2 exists, hence a continuous compound (AI,Ti)B-2 is not stable. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
