Abstract

We have determined the Sr-90 and Cs-137 content in soils of the central axis of the Eastern Urals Radioactive Trace in its eastern and western sections. Within the Chelyabinskaya and Sverdlovskaya Oblasts, 40 years after the1957 Kyshtym accident, the 90Sr inventory in the soils of the central axisof the Trace in the immediate vicinity of the contamination source is 1200-times higher than the control levels, and at a distance of more than 100 km it is 6-20-times higher than the control levels. The Cs-137 inventory within a 30-km zone around the Mayak Production Association facility (9-15 kBq/m(2)) does not depend on the distance from the contamination source.
