Abstract

This work investigates the impact, on electrothermal-chemical (ETC) closedchamber data analysis results, of treating the plasma energy and mass in amore detailed manner than is generally considered. In addition, the extentof energy loss due to radiation in the ETC closed chamber is addressed. Experimental ETC closed chamber data is analyzed to determine the impact of treating the plasma and the net radiation loss more exactly than currently implemented. Major observations are: I) ionization energy is minimal, 2) dissociation energy should not be included in the data analysis, 3) high heat losses in ETC firings are expected and 4) approximately 20% of the total electrical energy may be lost doe to radiation.
