Abstract

The relationship between the non-hermitian (R) and hermitian (W) forms of the effective interaction and the corresponding eigenvectors is discussed. We calculate the exact hermitian effective interaction in the sd and pf shells using the Bonn-A and Paris potentials. We comment upon the fact that W can be well approximated by 1/2(R + R(dagger)).
