Abstract

A three-dimensional theoretical analysis for the acoustic signal excited by a modulated electron beam in a solid is presented in this work. Based on the Hankel integral transformation method, we derive the explicit expression of the electron-acoustic signal by solving the thermal wave and displacement field equations in solid samples with finite sizes. We show theoretically that the thermal conductivity and elastic coefficient variations of samples can be displayed by electron-acoustic microscopic imaging with piezoelectric detection. Also, we introduceseveral numerical calculation results to interpret the related experimental phenomena.
