Abstract

The cure mixtures of NH4ClO4/resin in various ratios were burned under N2 gas pressure up to 70 kgf/cm2. The burning rate, yield of soot, and morphology were studied by transmission electron microscopy. A relation of r = aP(n) was seen between the burning rate, r, and the burning pressure, P. The soot was an aggregate of the spherical units. The diameter of soot particles depended on the mixture ratio but scarcely under burning pressure up to 70 kgf/cm2. The concentric orientation of carbon layer segments around multiple nuclei was developed, and the length of segments became larger by burning at high temperature under high pressure. The distribution pattern of carbon layer segments in sootparticles was similar to that from quenched structure of polymer mixtures that appeared in the phase separation process.
