Abstract

A hybrid optical/digital joint-Fourier correlation system using a liquid crystal light valve is presented for fingerprint identification. AMach-Zehnder interferometer is used as the fingerprint negative inputdevice and characteristics of real fingerprints are investigated in detail. The definitions of the cross-correlation peak as well as the identification criteria are modified by introducing the power density. Aspatial band-pass filtering is adopted to surpress effectively the background noise, and the identification performance is significantly improved. Experimental results are given.
