Abstract

The nonlinearities of the two-dimensional Flow of blood in a stenosedflexible artery are investigated in this paper by treating the arterial wall as an anisotropic, linear viscoelastic incompressible circularcylindrical membrane shell. The unsteady flow mechanism of the present investigation is subjected to a pulsatile pressure gradient arising from the normal functioning of the heart. The effect of the surrounding connective tissues on the motion of the arterial wall is also paid due consideration. The influence of the wall deformation on the Row characteristics of blood has been accounted for by considering suitably formulated continuity conditions. The equations governing the motion ofthe arterial wall are sought in the Laplace transform space to start with and the relevant solutions are obtained in the transformed domainby using an appropriate finite difference scheme. Their inversions tothe physical domain lead to calculate both the axial and the radial velocity profiles of the Rowing blood with low computational complexityby exploiting the appropriate boundary conditions. With the introduction of the short-time-range approximations, an extensive quantitative analysis has been performed through numerical computations of the relevant quantities presented graphically at the end of the paper in orderto justify the validity of such an analysis under consideration.
