Abstract

Substituted cyclobutenes were synthesized by irradiation of silicon tethered ene-ynes. Irradiation of a silicon tethered bisphenylalkyne resulted in cycloaddition and rearrangement to a substituted naphthalene. A diradical intermediate which resembles known DNA cleaving molecules is proposed.
