Abstract

Abdominal wall abscesses and sinus tracts are increasingly recognizedcomplications of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Most cases seem to be associated with spilled gallstones when the gall bladder is extracted through the epigastric port. We report a case of costochondritis whereretained calculi cause infection of the falciform ligament extending to the costal cartilage near the epigastric port. We suggest that extracting the gall bladder through the umbilical port may reduce the likelihood of such complications.
