Abstract

The p,T phase diagram od mercury telluride has been investigated up to 5.4 GPa and 1200K for the first time, by the energy dispersive powder X-ray diffraction method. Our results and analysis reconcile the apparent contradictions which appear in previous reports using differential thermal analysis. The proposed p,T diagram shows a liquid-liquid phase transition and a negative slope for the cinnabar-liquid melting curve.
