Abstract

Interventional radiology offers a number of useful techniques in bothhepatic and biliary malignancy, including guided biopsies, arterial embolisation and various forms of biliary drainage. Recent developmentsinclude transarterial chemoembolisation and percutaneous ethanol injection of liver tumours, and the use of expandable metal stents for internal biliary drainage. The exact role of these newer techniques in different conditions is not yet clear, but some benefits are already apparent.
