Abstract

Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) is studied since the beginning of this century. Environmental bacteria are able to form a biofilm on metallic surfaces. This biofilm shows a complex and a very heterogeneous structure formed by an association of organic and inorganic compounds. The biofilm can influence the physico-chemical conditions involved in corrosion process on metallic surface. The association between transmission electronic microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) permits to underline different biofilm compounds on carbonsteel.
