Abstract

Employing a process technology of native nicotinamide coenzyme - retention by charged nanofiltration membranes in continuous reaction systems, the synthesis of mannitol and gluconic acid from fructose and glucose by the NAD(H)-dependent enzymes mannitol dehydrogenase from Torulaspora delbruckii and glucose dehydrogenase from Bacillus megaterium has been studied. Based on kinetic characterization of the coupled enzyme system, partial optimization of the enzymatic redox process is demonstrated and the major factors governing the efficiency of the continuous reaction system are discussed.
