Abstract

A case of cutaneous, pleomorphic, T cell lymphoma, characterized by widespread bullous eruptions, is described. An altered topography of integrin pattern in the skin overlying the infiltrate was found, possibly related to blister formation. In fact, alpha 2 and alpha 3 chains were detected on the basal surface and alpha 6 beta 4 complex was observed on the lateral surface of basal keratinocytes, while laminin and type IV collagen were either weakly expressed or absent on the basal membrane. Histology showed an extensive epidermotropic infiltration and lymph node invasion by atypical lymphocytes. Immunological studies showed a T helper ''naive'' phenotype with loss of several pan-T cell antigens.
