Abstract

The structure, Curie temperature and magnetostriction of multicomponent pseudobinary alloys (Dy0.6Tb0.3Pr0.1)(Fe0.95-xMn0.05Gax)(1.85) (0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.2) were investigated using optical microscopy, SEM, a.c. susceptibility, X-ray diffraction, diffractometer step scanning and standard strain gauge techniques. It was found that the matrix of these alloys possesses cubic Laves phase structure, and its homogeneity region deviates from the stoichiometric composition. The Curie temperature decreases sharply, but the lattice parameter increases linearly with increasing Ga content. The room temperature magnetostriction lambda(s) and easy direction magnetostrictionlambda(111) of the polycrystalline (Dy0.6Tb0.3Pr0.1)(Fe0.95-xMn0.05Gax)(1.85) alloys were assessed.
