Abstract

Low-energy excitations of amorphous and semicrystalline poly(ethyleneterephthalate)s (PETs) have been studied by inelastic and quasielastic neutron scattering in an energy range of 0.2-10 meV. It was found that the low-energy excitation is not affected by the density fluctuations observed around Q = 0.03 Angstrom(-1) in the amorphous state. It was also found that dynamic scattering law S-c(Q, omega) of the crystalline phase is not described by the Debye theory, suggesting that the crystalline phase includes many disordered regions from which the low-energy excitation is originated.
