Abstract

Sputtered Co/Cu multilayers were investigated by X-ray diffractometryand TEM. We confirm a [111] texture perpendicular to the surface for layers grown with no Fe buffer. Layers with Fe showed no texture in X-ray, but an uncommon [111] texture parallel to the surface using TEM. Additionally, neighbouring grains build bundles of similar orientation. These structural differences are related to the magnetic properties.
