Abstract

Both title compounds, tribromobis(dimethylphenylphosphine)indium and triiodobis(methyldiphenylphosphine)indium, contain indium(III) in a trigonal bipyramidal environment, with axial phosphine and equatorial halide ligands. In-P bonds are ca 0. 1 angstrom longer in the triiodide compound; this probably results mainly from the larger size of the phosphines in this compound, although the effect of changing the halide cannot be assessed from the limited data available. Deviations of angles from ideal trigonal bipyramidal values are statistically significantbut no larger than those commonly observed for this type of geometry.
