Abstract

A case of adult T-cell leukaemia-lymphoma, with long-lasting cutaneous lesions and a small percentage of atypical circulating lymphocytes, was observed in Italy. Diagnosis was confirmed by the detection of thetypical flower-like cells in the peripheral blood and by the demonstration of HTLV-1 proviral DNA in the tumor cells. The immunological phenotype was characterized both on peripheral blood lymphocytes and cryostatic sections of the skin lesions: leukaemic cells were T-helper memory and CD25 positive, as expected. A positivity for CD56 and CLA (cutaneous lymphocyte-associated antigen) as well as a peculiar integrin expression pattern was found.
