Abstract

The aim of this work was to develop a method to produce F-18-labeled fluorine gas ([F-18]F-2) with high specific radioactivity (SA, radioactivity/mass-ratio). F-18-Labeled methyl fluoride ([F-18]CH3F) was synthesized from [F-18]F-aq(-) and mixed with carrier F-2 in an inert neonmatrix. The constituents were atomized in an electric discharge, after which a rearrangement and F-18 for F-19 exchange took place. [F-18]F-2 with a specific radioactivity of up to 55 GBq/mu mol is available for the labeling synthesis of tracers for positron emission tomography (PET). (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Inc.
