Abstract

The optical properties of Er3+ ions in zinc borosulphate (ZnSO4 . 7H(2)O + B2O3) and alkali zinc borosulphate (R(2)SO(4) + ZnSO4 . 7H(2)O B2O3, R(2)SO(4) = Li2SO4 . H2O, Na2SO4, or K2SO4 and Gd2(SO4)(3) . 8H(2)O) glasses are reported. The assigned energy level data of Er3+ (4f(11)) in borosulphate glasses are analyzed in terms of a parametrized model Hamiltonian and in turn satisfactory eigenvalues and eigenvectors for intensity analyses are obtained. The Judd-Ofelt theory has been applied to predict various spectroscopic parameters for the fluorescent levels of Er3+: borosulphate glasses and these results are compared and discussed with similar results.
